Midnight has been out for about a month and I finally, only within the past week, feel like I have a handle on my weekly loop.
Please note that this is not in any way an optimized or min-maxed list. It is not a how to guide or even one of my This Week in WoW posts. It is, instead, a run down of some of the weekly events and activities that can be done in the new expansion and why or why not they’re on my list of weekly “to dos.”
1) The Prey System
First, just to get it out of the way, the new Prey System is not on my list. I found it irritating to be interrupted, and sometimes killed, while doing other things like farming or completing world quests. I’m not an element of surprise kind of person, so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised by my irritation, but I actually thought I would really like this activity.
I think, maybe, I might like it more if I did it as its own task rather than trying to complete it in the background while doing other outdoor things. I might experiment with it more at some point, but for now it’s a hard pass for my weekly list. I just don’t like it enough.
2) The Dungeon Weekly Quest
This is variable for me, depending on the dungeon. I’ve done most of them as follower dungeons and I have to say there are some where once was enough and I’m not even sure I want to do them on an alt. This is one I check on and make the decision for each decision.
3) The Weekly “Choose One” Quest
This one is currently on my list, mainly because of the rewards. It helps, too, that there seems to be a variety of palatable options. It’s not just asking me to choose the same four things over and over again and, generally, at least two of the options are ones I don’t mind doing. So far, this is one I do every week.
4) Weekly Events (Bonus Weeks, World Events, etc.)
This is another time where it depends on what it is. I tried the Stormarion Assault once and that was enough. The Abundance Event is short enough and simple enough that I can’t imagine not running it once a week. I feel similarly about the Haranir History Weekly; it’s simple enough and short enough to do once.
I found Saltheril’s Soiree to be confusing and underexplained at first. Even wowhead’s guide didn’t answer all the questions I had. Now I just give out favors and do the resulting quests without worrying about defending a runestone and I find that to be much simpler and more enjoyable. I’m doing it more for the transmog anyway.
The Bonus Week events and holidays I do when and if it suits me and my schedule. I don’t stress too much about rewards since everything comes back around again sooner or later, but I do make sure to know what events are coming up to make an informed choice about my time in Azeroth each week.
5) The World Boss
I’d love to tell you that this is on my list for every week, because it probably should be, but it’s not. The drops are nice for alts, but my main has pretty much outgeared the drops and I’m just not playing alts enough right now to make it worthwhile every week. At the moment this one is a bonus if I get to it, and not a big deal if I don’t.
6) Delves
For now I’m enjoying the rewards and the feeling of exploration of new spaces, storylines, and mechanics. There are some I haven’t liked and probably wouldn’t do again even if they are bountiful, and some I had a lot of fun with. I don’t know if I’m driven to do enough of them in a week to get the really high level gear and vault drops, but doing a couple here and there is definitely on my list.
Conclusion
I like Midnight well enough at the moment, and I really enjoyed the weekly activities I did this past week. It’s the first week where I actually enjoyed Midnight’s End Game and it’s the first time I’ve felt like writing about WoW in at least two months. It feels good to have a routine of what I want to do, and to have let go of what I don’t want to do. Now I just need to find time to add in collecting and housing.
As always, whatever your game play, have fun in Azeroth!
