The 20th Anniversary event has been live for a little over a week and, despite some conflicting reactions, is going strong. With so many events, weekly quests, achievements, currencies, and rewards what should a solo and/or solo-ish player focus on? Below are some things to keep in mind when it comes to the Anniversary event. Though this post should be informative it is not a replacement for exploring the Event grounds on your own as this is not an exhaustive guide to the Anniversary Event.
Also, a note on the Guest Relations quest line. As of writing this post, this quest line has only just started and is still in Week 1. As such, it is not discussed in this post as I will not be focused on it until we are a few weeks into the quest line. As always, I encourage you to look at other resources as well for more information.
Buffs and Reputation
First of all the event, running from October 22, 2024 to January 6, 2025, comes with the typical experience and reputation buff. This buff, providing a 10% increase, can be added to by completing a daily quest (“Celebrate Good Fun!”) in Tanaris. This quest can be completed by competing different Anniversary events to fill a percentage bar. Upon completion players will earn an additional 10% bonus to experience and reputation gains.
Solo-Friendly Events and Activities
“A Time to Reflect” is a quest to answer one lore question correctly for XP, gold, and a nice solo-friendly way to earn some Timewarped Badges. Don’t worry, you can attempt this multiple times until you get the correct answer. This is a daily quest and can be completed by speaking with Historian Ju’Pa for the Horde or Historian Llore for the Alliance. These NPCs are located in the main platform in the middle of the Event Grounds and are worth visiting on any characters you want to level just for the easy XP each day.
The Event’s Fashion Frenzy activity is similar to Trial of Style. It is focused on transmog, with players voting for their favorite outfits. The activity’s NPC starts the event, which provides a category for players to focus on. There are several transmog NPC’s located around the stage who provide transmog services for free. After some time there will be an announcement that players can pick up their ribbons from a table on the side of the platform. Although players only need to pick up one ribbon, each player gets five votes. Casting your votes is as simple as clicking the ribbon and then clicking on another player. The top voted outfits will be on the stage at the end of the event. Casting votes will also earn you progress towards some of the Anniversary’s achievements.
Lorewalker Cho leads the Storyteller activity. There are three different stories: one about Baine Bloodhoof, one about Thassarian, and one about the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj raid. At different points during the stories extra actions will pop up and clicking on them means that your character will earn credit for participating in the storytelling activity. Hearing all three stories, and participating a certain number of times, all provide additional Anniversary achievements.
Mount Mania allows players to play around with their mount collections. The NPC in charge of this activity will announce 15 different mounts, one at a time. With each mount players will match it if they can, mounting up on their own version. You get a point for each mount you are able to match and the winner is announced at the end of the activity. Getting a certain number of matches, which can be earned over multiple attempts, leads to another Anniversary achievement.
The Pet Corner includes a few pet vendors as well as the ability to become one of your pets. To become a pet you need to have it following you. Then you click on a crate by some of the vendors and then click on your pet. This leads to the fun of having your pet follow you around. For a little while, for example, I was a gray tabby cat being followed by another gray tabby cat. Scattered by the rate and pet vendors are pet snacks which can be clicked on to provide a speed buff. Getting enough of these buffs in a row leads to yet another achievement.
By the entrance to the Caverns of Time is a balloon NPC. This NPC releases four different colors of balloon: gold, bronze, light blue, and dark blue. Clicking on the balloon will cause it to fly you around the event grounds. After riding around holding onto the balloon for a bit you will receive credit towards an achievement. Riding with all four colors of balloon will reward you the achievement.
Solo-ish-Friendly Events and Activities
While LFR might be a step too far for many, including myself, it is possible for a solo-ish player to run the revamped Blackrock Depths Raid. The raid is available on LFR, Normal, and Heroic difficulties. It is a 10-15 player raid with 8 bosses and 5 mini-bosses. Completing the raid provides another achievement, Bronze Celebration Tokens (a currency unique to the Anniversary event), and Veteran-Hero level gear depending on the difficulty level you complete. Completing the raid also provides Timewarped Relic Coffer Keys which can be used to purchase Blackrock Depths gear from vendors.
Queuing for the Chromie’s Codex activity allows to PUG a 10-20 player scenario located in Silithus. Players level 15 and up will be able to fly around the scenario zone to fight different past enemies. Players might face the Scourge, the Legion, and/or the Qiraji. At the end of the scenario players will work together in order to defeat one of three bosses: Tichondrius, Ossirian, or Kel’Thuzad. Completing this scenario not only gives you an achievement, but also completes the “Chromie’s Codex” quest which provides Bronze Celebration Tokens for the first Warband completion.
Korrak’s Revenge is a PVP Battleground activity which is returning to the Anniversary event. Players can use the Group Finder tool to join an event-specific version of Alterac Valley. Players can accept the quest “Korrak’s Revenge” and fight together against Korrak, a troll NPC.
A note here on my experience with this: I’ve only done this a few times personally. Each time I’ve done it, this year included, it seems as though more players are engaged in the PVP-aspect and ignore Korrak. This can make it difficult to complete the quest and earn the achievement and event rewards that go along with it.
There are 3 world bosses in Tanaris to defeat this year. The Sha of Anger is in the southwestern part of the zone, Archavon the Stone Watcher is in the north, and Doomwalker is just south of the Caverns of Time. Players level 15 and up can work together to defeat these bosses, either by getting lucky and joining in on an already-in progress fight or by using the Group Finder tool. Defeating all three bosses will yield two Anniversary achievements.
The Dragons of Nightmare, Azuregos, and Lord Kazzak are all also available to defeat during this event but may require more group interaction as they are located in different zones.
Currencies
The new Anniversary currency is Bronze Celebration Tokens. These tokens can be earned through completing the Daily Anniversary Quest (“Celebrate Good Fun!”) and the Weekly Anniversary Quests (defeating Event World Bosses, helping Chromie with her Codex, and completing Classic Timewalking dungeons and raiding). Bronze Celebration Tokens can also be earned through Weekly Events and Quests in Khaz Algar (Wax Collecting, Theater Troupe, Awakening the Machine, Spreading the Light, Severed Threads Pacts, the Weekly Reputation Quests, etc.). After you earn 100 Bronze Celebration Tokens an achievement will allow Tokens to drop from repeatable activities during the Anniversary Event.
Please note that, in addition to Bronze Celebration Tokens and Timewarped Relic Coffer Keys, Timewalking vendors will accept Timewarped Badges, which can be earned through running Timewalking content. In order to see all the rewards I suggest checking out wowhead.com or just browsing through the vendors at the Event Grounds. That way you can prioritize the currency vendors you know you will be able to buy from.
Conclusion
Solo and solo-ish players have lots to choose from this event, though some of it is a bit repetitive, especially if you’re grinding out currency. All in all, as always, have fun and play the game your way. Make sure what you’re going for is worthwhile to you. There is so much going on during the event that you’re bound to find something you like but, even if you don’t, that’s also more than OK. Above all, have fun and enjoy your game!!
