Is anyone getting tired of the Gearing-Go-Round?
One of the things I’ve leaned hard into over the past two expansions is gearing and I’m not sure why. I’m a largely solo player who occasionally dabbles in Group Finder content, like Timewalking Dungeons, mostly for the transmog and collecting. I could say that I’m into Delves but it would be a lie, or maybe just an exaggeration. I like Delves just fine but I run them as a way to get higher level gear that I need for . . . more Delves? That’s an odd cycle for content I find fun only some of the time.
Plenty of people have made the argument that solo players don’t need higher-tier gear for the content they do. When I was still firmly entrenched in the gearing cycle, I even made a post about it. I claimed that I needed the gear so I could run old content more easily. While this wasn’t a bad point to make, the actual truth is that I haven’t run old content since the Collector’s Bounty event.
Instead, I found myself participating, for the first time ever, in Raid Finder for the Gallagio. It was interesting, and late enough in the season that things sort of just fell over, but in hindsight I’m not sure it was completely worth it. I’m sort of glad I have the experience, but I don’t know why I ran it. It wasn’t for collecting (I only won one roll out of at least forty) and it wasn’t because I liked Undermine (controversial: I didn’t really like it). At the time I told myself it was for gear, but that gear is useless now.
I find myself unwilling to repeat the Raid Finder experiment for the Dimensius Raid. In fact, I’m only just starting to progress through the K’aresh storyline. I don’t even have my cloak yet. I do plan on running the Dimensius fight in story mode, but I have no real desire to try it out with a bunch of strangers. In short, my appreciation and interest in this expansion is waning. I’m still filling up my Vault with World Content and, this week, with Timewalking, but I think it might be my last week of doing so.
I’m tired of running the same Delves, the same World Quests, and the same Content just to unlock slots that give me gear I don’t really need and/or already have. I find that I am turning to my old goals of collecting and achievement-hunting. There’s so much I want to build up in the game, including professions for the upcoming player housing release, that getting gear for essentially nothing is not my focus.
Anyway, I just thought I’d post a reflection as my comeback post. Hopefully I’ll be more regular and consistent with posting in the coming months.
